Volunteer QA Tester

Organization: YAMM · Remote volunteer position · Part-time, 4–6 hours/week · Immediate start

About the role

We're looking for a detail-oriented volunteer to help test our website, app, or platform before and after launch. You'll hunt down bugs, check that features work as intended across devices and browsers, and help make sure our users have a smooth, reliable experience — all while gaining hands-on QA experience with a real product. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to break into QA/software testing, build a portfolio of testing work, or give back using existing QA skills.

Responsibilities

• Test new features, pages, and updates before they go live
• Check functionality across different browsers, devices, and screen sizes
• Identify, document, and report bugs clearly (steps to reproduce, screenshots, severity)
• Perform regression testing after fixes or updates are made
• Check for accessibility issues (readable text, working links, proper contrast, etc.)
• Track reported bugs through to resolution alongside the dev team
• Suggest improvements to usability or user experience as you test
• Help create or maintain a QA checklist/testing process for future releases

Requirements

• Detail-oriented with strong pattern-recognition and troubleshooting instincts
• Familiarity with QA/bug tracking tools (e.g., Jira, Trello, Google Sheets) is a plus
• Comfortable testing across multiple browsers and devices
• Clear written communicator — able to explain bugs so developers can act on them
• Patient and methodical; comfortable repeating tests to confirm fixes
• Passionate about the cause area and nonprofit work
• Prior QA, software testing, or technical background is a plus, but not required — we'll help you get started
