Aim

Our programs aim to:

  • Help those in need, particularly immigrant populations.
  • Show how unjust systems marginalize people and encourage action towards addressing injustice.

Programs

  • Fireside Chats: Explore issues of current social justice interest.
  • The Weekly Word: Weekly email featuring social justice discussions from faith leaders.
  • English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL): Free virtual and in-person instruction for English language learners in collaboration with JVS.
  • Grab & Go meal program: Food assistance for people experiencing homelessness and food insecurity.
  • Newsletter: Social justice and event news highlights, spiritual reflections by theologians.
  • Continual Learning Opportunities: Virtual connections with subscribers, including live and pre-recorded videos.

Volunteer Roles

  • Grant Writer: Translate our work into funding.
  • Grant Researcher: Build our pipeline by identifying and providing detailed information on foundations and funders whose priorities align with our programs.

What You'll Do

  • Identify foundations, corporate givers, and other funders whose priorities align with AFTDJ's programs.
  • Provide detailed information on 1-2 funders per month.
  • Research eligibility requirements, deadlines, giving history, and application processes.
  • Maintain a well-organized prospect database and application calendar.
  • Hand off vetted prospects to the Grant Writer with the context needed to move quickly.
  • Meet weekly with the Advancement team.

What We're Looking For

  • Previous experience: In grant acquisition, ideally in the nonprofit sector.
  • Skills: Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Tools: Access to Candid's Foundation Directory or a comparable platform (online training available).
  • Technical skills: Comfort with Excel and online research for searching and recording funder information.
  • Availability: Availability for a weekly Advancement team meeting.
