GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
THIS IS A VOLUNTEER POSITION ONLY. $25 STIPEND PER COUNTY GUIDELINES
EXAMPLES OF WORK
- Respond to emergency calls including fires and fire alarms, emergency medical calls, hazardous conditions, and other emergency situations.
- Perform firefighting duties, to include, rescue activities, emergency medical care, and stabilizing hazardous situations.
- Implement actions necessary to save lives and property; assist with emergency medical treatment and patient care.
- Absorb scene safety for all personnel and bystanders.
- Drive/operate fire department apparatus to emergency scenes or other assignments.
- Operate and maintain firefighting equipment and tools.
- Assist in the maintenance of fire apparatus and equipment.
- Attend ongoing training classes and drills; maintain required certifications.
- Absorb scene control and non-injured parties.
- Complete required reports and paperwork for incidents.
- Perform fire prevention duties as assigned.
- Maintain adequate inventory; restock as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Education, Training and Experience: High school diploma or GED. Must be at least 18 years of age. Requires a good driving record.
- Licenses and/or Certifications: Requires a valid driver license. Certification in CPR and EVOC is required within 6 months of appointment. Requires Firefighter I certification as required by Florida Administrative Code.
- OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must live within Okaloosa County or within 15 miles of Station 41, 4418 Poverty Creek Rd., Crestview, FL 32536, if out of Okaloosa County.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & ABILITIES
- Must meet medical and physical agility standards as established.
- Requires exertion upwards of 200 pounds of force occasionally, 100 pounds of force frequently, and 50 pounds of force constantly in the performance of fire suppression duties, evacuation and care of injured persons, and the use of emergency and related fire equipment.
- Frequent traversal of irregular, uneven, and/or erratically moving surfaces.
- Ability to position self in confined areas, for work overhead and to ascend/descend ladders, stairs, scaffolding, poles, ramps, and the like.
- Maintain composure in response to emergency situations.
- Exposure to situations typical of fire suppression duties. Requires exposure to outside atmospheric conditions.
- Movement about on hands, knees, and feet. The ability to grasp, pull, pinch, hold, grasp, turn or otherwise work with hands is required.
- Ability to communicate and interpret information through two-way radio.

- This position requires that you live within Okaloosa County or within 15 miles of Station 41, 4418 Poverty Creek Rd., Crestview, FL 32536, if out of Okaloosa County. Do you meet this requirement?
- Do you have at least a high school diploma or GED?
- Are you at least 18 years of age?
- Do you possess a current CPR certification or can you obtain within 6 months of appointment?
- Do you currently possess an EVOC certification or can you obtain within 6 months of appointment?
- Do you possess a Firefighter I certification as required by Florida Administrative Code?
- Have you had more than 1 at-fault accident within the past 12 months?
- Have you had 2 or more at-fault accidents within the past 3 years?
- Have you had 3 or more moving violations within the past 3 years?
- Have you had a DUI or Reckless Driving offense within the past 3 years?
- Do you possess a valid driver license?
