About Awaken Pittsburgh
Awaken Pittsburgh is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to fostering well-being, empathy, and compassion for all. We achieve our mission by teaching and encouraging evidence-based mindfulness and meditation practices. Through our programs, we aim to empower individuals and communities to thrive, promoting a culture of mindfulness that benefits everyone.
Responsibilities
- Micro-Content Creation: Draft or refresh high-impact copy for specific digital assets, such as monthly newsletters, short blog posts, or social media campaigns.
- Nuanced Translation: Turn complex mindfulness concepts, trauma-informed principles, or scientific benefits of meditation into accessible, comforting public copy.
- Brand Voice Support: Help ensure that our messaging remains consistently warm, grounded, compassionate, and aligned with secular mindfulness definitions.
- Asynchronous Collaboration: Review feedback and coordinate ideas asynchronously with our Marketing Manager and Copy Editor to maximize your volunteering window.
Requirements
- Active Mindfulness Grounding: An established personal or professional practice in mindfulness or meditation. You must already speak the "language" of secular practice, understanding its core terminology from day one.
- Demonstrated Writing Ability: Strong, concise copywriting skills with a portfolio or samples showing previous work in newsletters, blogs, marketing, or non-profit communications.
- Independent & Efficient: Able to take a brief prompt and turn it into finished copy autonomously, showing strong time management within a short weekly window.
- Tech Comfort: Reliable remote setup and familiarity with basic digital collaboration tools (Google Workspace, Slack, etc.) to keep communication seamless. Design tool skills (InDesign/Photoshop) are a welcome plus but not required.
Benefits
- Direct Community Impact: Use your professional craft to directly scale public accessibility to life-changing empathy and compassion tools.
- Supportive Environment: Give back within an intentional, mindful organization that deeply respects your boundaries, time, and personal growth.
- Skill Integration: Blend your passion for meditation with your professional portfolio in a meaningful, structured way.
