About the role

The Volunteer Coordinator plays a crucial role in advancing the mission of Maricopa County Animal Care & Control, enhancing animal care and serving the community. They recruit, onboard, and retain volunteers to support all aspects of MCACC’s operations.

Responsibilities

  • Assign volunteers to appropriate work areas
  • Ensure volunteers understand the organizational structure
  • Provide volunteers with the tools, training, and support needed for success
  • Communicate with volunteers via phone, email, newsletter, etc.
  • Mentor, coach, and discipline volunteers if necessary
  • Develop and administer a volunteer recognition program
  • Recommend revisions to volunteer policies, processes, and expectations
  • Update the volunteer database and generate reports detailing volunteer activities
  • Meet with division managers to determine volunteer needs, coordinate assignments, and address problems
  • Affirmatively recruit volunteers for public dog field trips
  • Affirmatively recruit volunteers for on and off-site events related to either the recruitment of volunteers or the use of volunteers in large numbers
  • Coordinate public dog field trips, including dog selection, handling, participant education, and program recordkeeping
  • Affirmatively recruit volunteers for group volunteer inquiries and events, which include businesses, schools, and other partnerships

Requirements

  • One year of work experience in coordinating volunteer or community programs, or other related program development experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Business, Marketing, or a closely related field
  • Job-related experience may substitute for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis
  • Experience in animal sheltering is valued
  • Familiarity with Volgistics, Trello, Chameleon, and similar tracking and reporting software is preferred

Qualifications

  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record by the time of hire

Skills

  • Strong customer service skills
  • Ability to lift 30lbs, bend, and walk
  • Ability to work in a busy, often noisy, office setting within an animal shelter
  • Ability to be around animals (dogs and cats)
  • Ability to handle cleaning products used in animal shelters
  • Ability to smell the smells associated with animal housing
  • Ability to stand and walk on all types of surfaces, sometimes slippery, rough, and/or uneven

Pay

Anticipated Hiring Range: $55,000 - $72,500 annually
Full Pay Range: $55,000 - $90,000 annually
Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification.

Schedule

This position is fully in-person and requires a strong customer service presence during all working hours.
