Volunteer: Brand Identity Design
About the role
This is a volunteer opportunity provided by Taproot Foundation, a nonprofit creating social change through pro bono connections. Free Brands helps survivors of trafficking and gender-based violence build businesses and lasting economic freedom, and we are looking for a designer to develop the visual identity that carries that work into the world.
Responsibilities
- Develop the visual identity for Free Brands, including a primary logo and wordmark that clearly reads Free Brands, along with secondary variations.
- Create logo usage guidelines.
- Design and deliver a color palette with exact codes.
- Develop typography and iconography or graphic elements.
- Ensure the visual identity is adaptable for both print and digital platforms.
Requirements
We envision the volunteer developing a primary logo and wordmark that clearly read Free Brands, along with secondary variations, logo usage guidelines, our color palette with exact codes, typography, and iconography or graphic elements, all delivered in formats we can use across print and digital.
Qualifications
- A strong portfolio showcasing previous work in branding and design.
- Experience working with nonprofits and social impact organizations.
- Understanding of the importance of visual identity in building credibility and trust.
- Ability to work collaboratively with the Free Brands team, including the founder, to ensure the final product aligns with the organization's mission and values.
Skills
- Strong visual design skills.
- Proficiency in graphic design software such as Adobe Creative Suite.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Understanding of accessibility and inclusive design principles.

Pay
Volunteer positions with Taproot Foundation are unpaid. However, volunteers may be eligible for reimbursement for travel expenses upon submission of receipts.

Volunteers are expected to commit to regular check-ins and deadlines set by the Free Brands team. The timeline for this project is flexible but will be communicated early in the process.
