Classroom Volunteer Duties

• Interacting and engaging with the children.
• S supporting the interaction of a child with other children in classroom activities.
• Assisting the children with hand-washing, preparing for snack time, etc. for primary grades.
• Assisting the classroom teacher and teaching assistants with transitions between different segments of the class.
• Helping to supervise the children and keep them safe.
• Proctoring assessments as needed

Requirements

• Commitment to the mission and values of KIPP Memphis Public Schools, and enthusiasm for working with children.
• No prior childcare experience is required.
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with KIPP Memphis staff, parents, and children.
• Ability to commit to at least one 2-hour class per week for the full 3-month session.
• Good awareness of body in space, and ability to transition quickly from sitting to standing positions.
• Maintain a positive and flexible attitude in the classroom to help children with a wide variety of activities.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.

Qualifications

• Satisfactory criminal records check, pre-hire and annually thereafter, if applicable.
• Must be eligible to work in the United States and provide work authorization.

Other Qualifications

• Occasional travel to KIPP Memphis campuses may be required as needed.
• Prolonged periods standing and actively monitoring student behavior while teaching.
• Able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
• Able to traverse classroom and adjust height, by bending or leaning, in order to teach each child.
• Able to facilitate classroom transitions by walking through hallways and up and down stairs with students.
