Young Storytellers is a youth development and arts education nonprofit organization based in Los Angeles. The position involves mentoring students in writing and participating in a live performance called the Big Show.

Young Storytellers is dedicated to empowering young people to tell their own stories and fostering an empathetic and equitable future. We aim to bring underrepresented voices to the forefront through storytelling.

What Is This Position?

  • Facilitate writing sessions with small groups of student writers.
  • Support and guide students through the creative process, encouraging exploration and play.
  • Meet with your Head Mentor before the program starts for orientation.
  • Communicate with your Head Mentor weekly via email and during sessions.
  • Model and uphold the values of belonging, exploration, connection, and play.

  • Experience with young people or a creative industry is helpful but not required.
  • Commit to a 9-week in-person program, meeting once a week for 1 hour-long writing sessions and one 2.5-hour performance.
  • Support a small group of student writers in a classroom setting.
  • Complete a Volunteer Application and visit the Volunteer Portal to select a school site.
