Volunteer Adult ESL Instructor

Join our team as a Volunteer Adult ESL Instructor at the BCTC ESL English Class for Adults at the Carnegie Center for Literacy & Learning in Lexington, KY. We are looking for 2 volunteers to teach or assist in classes for adults learning English.

About the role

Volunteers will teach or assist in one or more levels of ESL classes, collaborating with an experienced team to perform lesson planning using the established curriculum. Training, materials, and mentoring are provided.

Classes meet 9:30–11:00 a.m., Monday through Thursday, from August 10, 2026 to May 20, 2027. No classes are held in summer. Volunteers may choose to teach one or more days per week.

Responsibilities

• Teach or assist in ESL classes for adult learners
• Collaborate with an experienced team on lesson planning
• Follow the established curriculum
• Attend orientation and complete a background check

Requirements

• Must speak, read, and write fluent English
• Teaching or public service background preferred
• Ability to pass a background check
• Willingness to commit to the class schedule (Monday–Thursday, 9:30–11:00 a.m.)
