The Voice Communications Specialist will support essential healthcare communications by operating telephone and paging systems with accuracy, professionalism, and urgency.
Responsibilities
- Receive, screen, and accurately route incoming and outgoing calls while providing directory assistance and information on telephone system usage.
- Place and record local, long-distance, and international calls for physicians and other healthcare personnel according to established procedures.
- Cooky call center or telephone operator experience, or 2 years of customer service experience.
- Coordinate conference call requests and provide patients with dialing assistance, call placement support, and answers to telephone-related questions.
- Operate overhead and long-range paging systems and process scheduled group alert tests twice daily.
- Expedite medical emergencies and crisis communications by following established paging and notification procedures.
- Support staff with out-of-service paging requests by making required programming changes within the paging systems.
- Operate telephone consoles, auxiliary telephone backup systems, messaging technology, alpha units, facsimile equipment, and related communication systems.
- Aid personnel in contacting on-call physicians and other on-call resources, including responding to outside callers seeking appropriate medical assistance.
- Send domestic and international telex-format communications and receive, log, route, and dispatch incoming telex and fax messages.
- Maintain a high standard of accuracy, confidentiality, responsiveness, and professionalism when handling patient, caregiver, and operational communications.
Requirements
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Previous healthcare or healthcare-related experience is preferred.
- Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to exchange information accurately and professionally.
- Excellent listening skills, sound judgment, and the ability to determine appropriate call routing or escalation.
- Ability to remain calm, focused, and responsive when managing urgent or emergency communications.
- Comfortable operating computers, telephone systems, paging equipment, fax systems, and other office technology.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow established procedures consistently.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment while maintaining reliable communication and service standards.
- Ability to remain stationary and work at a computer for extended periods, with the capacity to use standard office equipment and communicate effectively throughout the workday.
- Ability to travel throughout the broader health system may be required for certain activities.
- Ability to move up to 10 pounds may be required in some locations.
