Vocational Trainee: Machining (Fall 2026)

What you will do

• Operate machine tools such as lathes, milling machines and grinders to produce metal parts.
• Review electronic or written blueprints or specification.
• Plan the sequence of cutting and finishing operations.
• Loading and unloading of parts on machine center.
• Monitor and control feed rate and speed.
• Detect problems by listening for specific sounds.
• Adjust cutting speed to compensate for harmonic vibrations.
• Monitor accuracy of cuts.
• Replace dull cutting tools.
• Check accuracy of work against blueprints and specifications.
• Produce large quantities of parts.
• Wrote basic programs.
• Modify programs in response to problems.

Who are you?

• Student must be currently enrolled and pursuing the Machining world.
• Student must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5.
• Must be at least 17 years of age.
