Vocational Services Specialist

BJC Behavioral Health is a community health center that provides and coordinates behavioral health services for more than 8,000 seriously mentally ill adults and seriously emotionally disturbed children in St. Louis City, St. Louis County, St. François, Iron, and Washington counties. As an Administrative Agent of the Missouri Department of Mental Health (DMH), BJC Behavioral Health serves as a major point of entry for people eligible for mental health services funded by DMH and is responsible for serving as gatekeeper to the public mental health system.

About the Role

Facilitates linkage and coordination with area employment resources that increase the opportunities for meaningful employment and educational experiences for adults with serious mental illness, some with co-occurring substance use and/or intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Shift is typically Monday–Friday, 8 AM–5 PM, though occasional support outside normal work hours may be required. Flex scheduling is offered in these situations.

This is a community-based position located in North County (Graham Road, Florissant), with work performed throughout the St. Louis Metro area.

Responsibilities

• Learn the job market and the skills/resources needed to assist clients.
• Develop relationships with the business community and training resources.
• Assist individuals with developing employment goals and provide supports/services to attain those goals, including:
  • Career counseling
  • Linkage to resources
  • Resume development
  • Interview preparation
  • Finding and developing job opportunities
  • Providing job supports at or away from the job site
• Develop a variety of employment and educational opportunities for BJC Behavioral Health clients.
• Maintain relationships with the business community to establish and sustain employment opportunities for clients.
• Act as a liaison with the Department of Vocational Rehabilitation and other social service agencies for staff and clients.
• Provide consultation to staff and clients regarding employment.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree
• Valid Driver’s License

Preferred Qualifications

• 2–5 years of relevant experience
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to establish rapport with diverse individuals, including young adults, funding sources, clinicians, families, and the business community
• Strong time management and organizational skills
• Professional demeanor and problem-solving ability
