Vocational Job Coach (West Hempstead)

About the role

The Job Coach is responsible for the daily execution of both on- and off-campus activities with the vocational students, as directed. This position requires a great deal of knowledge about community areas and locations, as well as possible triggers to the students. This position also requires knowledge of Collaborative Problem Solving, CPI Non-Crisis Intervention, and neurobiological disorders and their manifestations. This position requires a good driving history, and the ability to be added to our umbrella insurance policy. The Job Coach will report to the Vocational Coordinator of the Gersh Organization.

Responsibilities

  • Implement Life Skills & Career Development curriculum
  • Coach students as directed
  • Follow the student's IEP goals and ensure achievement by mastery date
  • Communicate with parents on a regular basis about the Vocational program
  • Attend 1 team meeting per week and daily huddles
  • Attend a weekly supervision meeting with the Vocational Coordinator
  • Professional development as requested
  • Collect data to track student progress
  • Ensure positive and supportive communication with student at all times
  • Assist in the implementation of off-campus activities related to the Vocational program, as requested
  • Assist in the coordination and management of Gersh Academy Vehicles

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (preferred) or High School Diploma
  • Must have valid NY State Driver's License
  • Must have CDL license
  • Ability to drive up to 30 miles or more daily

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to keep students safe from themselves and others and, in some cases, may need to implement CPI (therapeutic holds) procedures
  • Must be able to remove oneself from potentially harmful situations and, in some cases, be able to lift a child
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and move throughout the workday
  • Ability to lift (at least 50–65 pounds), assist, and/or physically support students, which may include lifting or guiding students of varying sizes
  • Ability to physically intervene when required to ensure safety (per CPI training)
  • Ability to remove oneself and/or others from unsafe situations quickly
  • Ability to maintain attention and focus in a dynamic, high-stimulation environment
  • Ability to multi-task and shift priorities quickly
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and decision-making, particularly in high-pressure or safety-sensitive situations
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and maintain professional relationships

Schedule

8:00AM-3:30PM (and once a week until 4PM for a team meeting)

Pay

$23 per hour (West Hempstead)
