VLC Staff Attorney

About the role

The University of South Carolina seeks a Staff Attorney to provide legal representation and support to veterans and their families through the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Responsibilities

• Advise clients on VA benefits claims, appeals, and related matters.
• Prepare and file legal documents, including petitions and briefs.
• Represent clients before VA administrative hearing boards and courts.
• Collaborate with other legal professionals and VA staff to ensure efficient case management.
• Provide training and guidance to VA staff on legal issues and procedures.

Requirements

• Admitted to practice law in South Carolina or another state.
• Experience in veterans' benefits claims, administrative appeals, or civil legal services preferred.
• Strong analytical and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Qualifications

• J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school.
• Passing bar exam required.
• Minimum of 3 years of relevant legal experience.

Skills

• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Knowledge of federal and state laws relevant to veterans' benefits.
