Vivarium Technician

Job Summary

The Vivarium Technician at BioLegend is responsible for the daily care of research animals including feeding, cage washing, maintaining a clean environment and monitoring the overall health of the animals. The position also involves handling animal requests and maintaining breeding colonies. This role operates on a Saturday through Wednesday schedule.

Essential Functions

• Daily monitoring of animal health and vivarium environmental conditions
• Supply appropriate food and water for animals housed in the vivarium
• Clean and provide animal housing and associated materials/equipment within assigned animal rooms
• Transfer animals from dirty to clean caging providing appropriate feed, water and bedding
• Clean cages, accessories, and water bottles via cage washer or by hand
• ATP test cages, accessories and other items quantitatively evaluating vivarium cleanliness
• Aids with the receipt, stocking of ordered items
• Wean Mice
• Properly dispose of waste
• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of animal cages, and support spaces of the vivarium, providing a clean odor free and low stress environment for the animals to ensure the highest standards of animal welfare
• Establish and maintain appropriate and quality communication, teamwork, collaboration, and cooperation

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Animal husbandry experience
• Some college coursework or associate's degree
• Good verbal and written communication skills

Work Environment & Physical Demands

• Laboratory environment with occasional data entry on a computer
• Occasional exposure to a warehouse environment
• Regularly stands, talks, hears, uses hands and fingers to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools or controls, and reaches with hands and arms
