Vivarium Technician
Job Summary
The Vivarium Technician at BioLegend is responsible for the daily care of research animals including feeding, cage washing, maintaining a clean environment and monitoring the overall health of the animals. The Vivarium Technician in addition handles animal requests and maintain breeding colonies. This position is expected to work independently and in a team environment under established safety guidelines and protocols.
Essential Functions
- Daily monitoring of animal health and vivarium environmental conditions
- Supply appropriate food and water for animals housed in the vivarium
- Clean and provide animal housing and associated materials/equipment within assigned animal rooms
- Transfers animals from dirty to clean caging providing appropriate feed, water and bedding
- Clean cages, accessories, and water bottles via cage washer or by hand
- ATP test cages, accessories and other items quantitatively evaluating vivarium cleanliness
- Affords assistance with the receipt, stocking of ordered items
- Weans mice
- Properly disposes of waste
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of animal cages, and support spaces of the vivarium, providing a clean odor free and low stress environment for the animals to ensure the highest standards of animal welfare
- Establish and maintain appropriate and quality communication, teamwork, collaboration, and cooperation
Minimum Qualifications – Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Animal husbandry experience
- Some college coursework or associate's degree
- Requires good verbal and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications – Education and Experience
- Some college coursework or associate's degree
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Laboratory environment with occasional data entry on a computer
- Occasional exposure to a warehouse environment
- Regularly stands, talks, hears, uses hands and fingers to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms
Pay
The base salary range for this full-time position is $18.75 - $21.50/hour. This range reflects the minimum and maximum target for a new hire in this position. The base pay actually offered to the successful candidate will take into account internal equity, work location, and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
