Visual Storyteller
About the role
The Tallahassee Democrat, part of the USA TODAY NETWORK, is seeking a Visual Storyteller to lead compelling photo and video journalism that brings to life the biggest stories in Florida's capital region.
Responsibilities
- Capture and produce compelling visual journalism, including photography, video and short-form social content
- Cover breaking news and major events, delivering visuals quickly to support real-time reporting
- Tell people-first stories visually, focusing on the impact of news on local communities
- Edit and publish multimedia content optimized for digital, mobile and social platforms
- Use analytics and audience insights to guide visual storytelling decisions and improve engagement
- Develop multimedia storytelling plans for daily and enterprise coverage
- Identify and pursue visual opportunities around trending topics and high-interest stories
- Produce video-first journalism, including vertical video, explainers and live coverage formats
- Ensure all work reflects accuracy, context and journalistic integrity
- Maintain equipment and stay current on emerging storytelling tools and techniques
Requirements
- A digitally savvy visual journalist with strong photography and video skills
- Experience editing video and photos for web, mobile and social platforms
- Understanding of audience behavior, SEO and social media trends
- Strong storytelling instincts with a people-centered approach
- Ability to juggle breaking news, daily assignments and enterprise projects simultaneously
- Familiarity with analytics tools and social listening to identify visual opportunities
- A collaborative mindset and ability to work across teams
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, multimedia or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 2+ years of professional experience preferred
