About the role
ABC10, the TEGNA-owned ABC affiliate in Sacramento, California, is seeking a talented and innovative Visual Journalist & Storyteller to join our award-winning ABC10 Originals team.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a dedicated visual journalist for ABC10 Originals, contributing to investigative, enterprise, and documentary-style projects.
- Shoot and edit high-quality stories ranging from general assignment and enterprise pieces to half-hour and hour-long specials.
- Collaborate closely with reporters, producers, and editors to develop visual storytelling strategies from concept through completion.
- Create compelling content for television, digital platforms, social media, and ABC10+ streaming.
- Utilize advanced production techniques including drone photography, graphics, motion design, natural sound storytelling, and creative lighting.
- Operate professional video equipment, including mirrorless and Sony FS-series cameras.
- Perform advanced post-production work, including color correction, color grading, audio mixing, and visual effects.
- Edit using Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe After Effects, producing content optimized for multiple platforms and audiences.
- Support breaking news and special event coverage when needed.
- Operate station vehicles and travel throughout Northern California for assignments.
- Stay current with emerging storytelling tools, technologies, and production techniques.
Qualifications
- Five or more years of professional news, documentary, or long-form storytelling experience preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to shoot and edit compelling, narrative-driven stories with strong visual composition and emotional impact.
- Advanced proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro and working knowledge of Adobe After Effects.
- Strong understanding of cinematography, visual sequencing, natural sound, and pacing.
- Experience with color grading, advanced lighting techniques, and professional audio recording.
- Familiarity with Sony camera systems, S-Log workflows, and modern digital production techniques.
- Experience using live transmission tools such as TVU, Dejero, or similar systems.
- FAA Part 107 drone certification preferred.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team environment.
- Calm and adaptable under deadline pressure and during breaking news situations.
- Excellent communication skills and a passion for innovation, creativity, and impactful journalism.
