About The Role

We are seeking an experienced Visual Designer to join our team in a role that bridges complex technical and operational content with compelling visual storytelling. The successful candidate will be responsible for translating intricate personnel workflows, workforce research, modernization strategies, and stakeholder insights into clear, engaging visual narratives and decision-support products. This role requires close collaboration with cross-functional teams, including User Experience Designers, Technical Engineers, Recruiters, and Product Owners, to produce cohesive visual communication materials.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in graphic design, visual communication, information design, data visualization, digital media, communications, fine arts, or a related field.
  • Minimum of five years of relevant professional experience in visual design, information storytelling, or related areas.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating expertise in visual storytelling, data visualization, executive communication, and presentation design.
  • Experience translating complex technical, operational, policy, or research content into clear visual products for diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and Microsoft PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with Figma or similar collaborative design tools.
  • Knowledge of data visualization principles, typography, layout, color theory, hierarchy, and information architecture.
  • Experience working with researchers, product teams, subject matter experts, and senior stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, incorporate feedback efficiently, and meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong written, verbal, organizational, and client engagement skills with attention to detail.
  • U.S. citizenship and ability to meet government security, suitability, and system-access requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Translate complex personnel processes, research findings, workforce insights, dependencies, and recommendations into clear visual narratives suitable for varied stakeholder audiences.
  • Create current-state and future-state workflow diagrams, journey maps, service blueprints, system maps, and stakeholder maps.
  • Create executive-ready briefings, infographics, reports, one-page summaries, implementation roadmaps, decision matrices, and command-level communication products.
  • Develop dashboard concepts and performance views that effectively communicate service health, recruiting pipeline status, modernization progress, risks, and outcomes.
  • Collaborate with the User Experience Designer to visualize research findings, personas, prototypes, and service design artifacts.
  • Work with the Technical Engineer Recruiter to visualize workforce demand, talent markets, candidate journeys, recruiting channels, and pipeline performance.
  • Prioritize the Product Owner to present product vision, backlog priorities, delivery roadmaps, dependencies, and progress in clear, actionable formats.
  • Develop and maintain reusable templates, component libraries, style guides, and visual standards to ensure consistency and accelerate delivery.
  • Apply data visualization principles to select appropriate visual forms that accurately represent both quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Ensure all visual products are accurate, accessible, audience-appropriate, and compliant with applicable standards such as Section 508 and WCAG.
  • Manage multiple concurrent design projects, versions, reviews, and deadlines with strong quality control and attention to detail.
  • Present design rationale, incorporate stakeholder feedback, and revise products efficiently while maintaining clarity and visual integrity.
