Key Responsibilities
- Welcome and orient visitors to the site, exhibits, and programs
- Provide accurate and engaging information about Tuskegee Institute history
- Respond to visitor questions and assist with navigation of the site
- Support daily visitor center operations, including front desk duties
- Deliver informal and formal interpretive talks to visitors
- Assist with guided tours and educational programming
- Support K–12 school visits and group tours
- Communicate the legacy of George Washington, Booker T. Washington, and Tuskegee Institute
- Assist with planning and execution of public programs and special events
- Aid in logistics such as setup, materials preparation, and visitor coordination
- Contribute ideas to enhance visitor engagement and programming
- Track visitor attendance and engagement metrics
- Collect visitor feedback to support program improvement
- Afford opportunities for hands-on experience in National Park Service visitor services operations
- Develop interpretive and public speaking skills
- Increase knowledge of African American history and education legacy
- Experience in program coordination and visitor engagement
- Learn public history and community-centered storytelling
- Mentor under the guidance of NPS staff and educators
Qualifications
- Background or interest in history, public history, African American studies, education, or related field
- Strong communication and public speaking skills
- Interest in community engagement and visitor experience
- Ability to work in a team-oriented environment
- Professionalism and customer service mindset
- Experience with public-facing roles (preferred but not required)
