VISITOR INFOROMATION PROGRAM ASSISTANT II-KONA (DELEGATED)

About the role

The Visitor Information Program Assistant II position is located at the Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport, State of Hawaii, Department of Transportation. The role involves assisting the traveling public with information and interpreter services.

Responsibilities

• Speak a designated language (Japanese, Mandarin, Korean, Tagalog, Hawaiian, Samoan, Spanish, or French) as well as English while conversing with the traveling public and others.
• Provide interpreter services as required.
• Perform duties of the next lower level in the series (additional responsibilities as assigned).

Requirements

Applicants must meet the following minimum qualification requirements:

• Basic Experience: Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions; high degree of verbal skill. This can be satisfied by part‑time or unpaid work performed on a continuous basis, or by possession of a high school diploma or equivalent.
• General Experience: One (1) year of work experience demonstrating patience, tact, and an even temper when meeting and dealing with others; desirable experience includes hospitality or customer service catering to the traveling public.
• Special Language Requirement: Knowledge of the ability to speak ONE of the following languages in addition to English: Japanese, Mandarin, Korean, Tagalog, Hawaiian, Samoan, Spanish, or French.
• Substitutions: Successful completion of coursework from an accredited college or university may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester credit hours of coursework for six (6) months of General Experience, provided the coursework includes at least three (3) semester credit hours in psychology, sociology, social work, or other behavioral science.
• Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Clearance: Must undergo a pre‑employment fingerprint‑based criminal history record check and have no disqualifying conviction within the preceding ten years.

Pay

Salary range: $3,471 to $4,388 per month (SR‑08, Step C to I). Hiring rates are based on availability of funds, the applicant’s qualifications, and other relevant factors.

Schedule

Applicants must be willing and able to work rotating shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
