About the role

The University of Pikeville (UPIKE) is seeking applicants for a full-time, nine-month, non-tenure track Visiting Professor of Writing, starting in August 2026. The position will focus on providing dynamic teaching and support for the University's Writing program, as well as a commitment to the University's mission as a school of opportunity. The ideal applicant will display a passion for instructional excellence and innovation in teaching writing. While this position offers an opportunity to engage with students at various skill levels, the primary responsibility will be to teach College Writing courses to fulfill the undergraduate General Education requirement. Applicants must demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching in a small university setting and possess the ability to work effectively with others in a collegial environment dedicated to student learning.

Education & Skill Requirements

  • A Master's degree in Writing, Composition and Rhetoric, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching Writing at the undergraduate level is strongly desired.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach students with diverse academic backgrounds and experiences.
  • Ability to work effectively and professionally with students and colleagues.
  • Must possess excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
