Visiting Part-Time Lecturer in Philosophy

Visiting part-time faculty position in the Department of Philosophy to teach one introductory course during the Fall 2026 semester.

About the role

The successful candidate will teach PHIL 110 – Philosophical Inquiries, an introductory course for first-year students scheduled Tuesday and Thursday from 11:00–12:15 p.m.

This one-semester course explores foundational questions—“Why do we exist?” “Why is there so much suffering in the world?” “Why does the world itself exist?”—through readings from Plato, Aristotle, Aquinas, Descartes, and Kant.

Responsibilities

• Deliver engaging lectures and facilitate class discussions for first-year students.
• Design and grade assignments that deepen students’ understanding of philosophical texts and arguments.
• Support the College’s mission as a Jesuit, undergraduate liberal-arts institution through inclusive pedagogies.

Requirements

• Demonstrated commitment to and excellence in undergraduate teaching.
• Experience with inclusive pedagogies informed by current practice and scholarship.
• Ph.D. in Philosophy preferred; ABD considered.

Pay

$8,000 for teaching one course in Fall 2026.

Additional information

This is a part-time, non-benefited visiting appointment. The College will not sponsor H-1B visa petitions that require the $100,000 employer fee.
