Visiting Instructor - Physics

About the Role
This is a nine-month, non-tenure-track appointment for one academic year, based on Tarleton’s main campus in Stephenville, Texas, with the potential for annual renewal. Summer appointment is dependent upon need and funding availability. Work hours are Monday–Friday, 8 AM–5 PM or as required by teaching responsibilities. May involve teaching at various campus locations or through approved instructional modalities. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare, and deliver lectures, seminars, and/or laboratory offerings to undergraduate and/or graduate students, including general education core curriculum.
- Develop course syllabi, select instructional materials, and design assessments such as exams, quizzes, and papers.
- Assess student performance, provide timely feedback, and evaluate learning outcomes to inform teaching practices.
- Engage students in active learning, foster critical thinking, and provide opportunities for discussion and hands-on learning.
- Provide academic support through office hours, assignment feedback, and mentoring.
- Adhere to university policies, academic integrity standards, and accreditation requirements.
- Incorporate innovative teaching methods and technologies to enhance student engagement.
- Participate in professional development to stay current in the field and improve teaching skills.
- Collaborate with colleagues on course coordination, program development, and resource sharing.
- Contribute to institutional service, including committees, recruitment, and faculty mentoring.
Requirements
- Earned master’s degree in Physics or a closely related discipline from an accredited university.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
- Knowledge of disciplinary subject matter adequate for graduate-level instruction.
- Ability to interact professionally with students, staff, and faculty.
