Visiting Faculty - ART + FILM (Ceramics/Sculpture)

Cal Poly Humboldt and the Department of Art + Film invites applications for a full-time, temporary Visiting Faculty position in Ceramics/Sculpture for the academic year 2026/2027. This is a one-year appointment with initial placement for the Fall 2026 semester. Subsequent reappointment for Spring 2027 is expected, contingent upon satisfactory performance evaluation, budget, and programmatic need.

The Department of Art + Film at Cal Poly Humboldt offers accredited undergraduate degrees through the National Association of Schools of Art and Design. Programs include:

• Bachelor of Arts in Art, with concentrations in Studio Art and Art Education
• BA in Art History & Museum Studies
• Bachelor of Arts in Film
• Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fine Arts
• Bachelor of Fine Arts in Media Arts

Responsibilities

The primary professional responsibilities include teaching, maintaining office hours, and collaborating with colleagues. Instructional assignments may include:

• Ceramics I, II, III
• Sculpture I, II, III
• 3D Foundations
• Special Topics in Ceramics or Sculpture

We seek an actively exhibiting artist whose creative practice centers in ceramics and extends into sculpture and/or digital fabrication. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate studio courses in ceramics, with the possibility of contributing to sculpture, 3D foundations, and digital fabrication, depending on expertise. The ideal candidate will bring a dynamic studio practice, a strong record of professional activity, and a commitment to fostering innovation, material exploration, and interdisciplinary collaboration in the classroom.

Requirements

• Earned MFA or equivalent in Ceramics or related field from an accredited college or university at the time of appointment.
• Record of training or experience in Ceramics or a closely related field.
• Excellence in, or clear potential for, university-level teaching and creating a student-centered learning environment.
• Active exhibition record demonstrating ongoing professional engagement.
• College-level teaching experience in ceramics.
• Demonstrated experience working effectively with diverse student and/or research populations.
• Demonstrated knowledge and familiarity addressing issues of concern facing students from diverse backgrounds in higher education.

Preferred Qualifications

• Ability to teach courses in sculpture, 3D digital fabrication, or related interdisciplinary practices.
• Demonstrated interest in collaborative and cross-disciplinary approaches to artmaking.
• Experience in maintaining and managing ceramics and 3D studio facilities.

Pay

This position will be filled in the Lecturer/Visiting Faculty classification. Salary is dependent on qualifications and experience, with the following ranges:

• Lecturer A: $5,507 - $6,677 per month
• Lecturer B: $6,221 - $13,224 per month
• Lecturer C: $6,825 - $14,523 per month

Appointees are typically placed at the beginning of the range. The full-time (15 units per semester) monthly base salaries will be prorated based on the number of units worked and paid in six monthly payments for each full semester.

Additional Information

Working in the state of California is a condition of employment for this position. The successful candidate must be able to accept on-campus instruction and come to campus when needed. At the time of appointment, non-U.S. citizens must have authorization from the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services to work in the United States.
