Salary Range: $55,000.00 - $60,000.00

About the role

The School of Psychology at the University of Southern Mississippi invites applications for a full-time, 9-month, Visiting Assistant Professor position (multiple positions may be available) beginning August 2026. This is an opportunity to join a vibrant School of Psychology with 125 graduate students in APA-accredited doctoral programs (Clinical, School & Counseling Psychology), an MPCAC-accredited Counseling Psychology MS program, an Experimental Psychology PhD program, and 600 undergraduate psychology majors.

These positions are ideal for post-docs seeking extensive teaching experience in undergraduate and graduate courses, preparing for an academic career. Opportunities for post-doctoral supervision toward licensure (including mentorship and professional development) and research collaboration are available.

Responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate courses in the applicant’s areas of expertise, such as:
  • Introductory psychology
  • Careers in psychology
  • Developmental psychology
  • Research methods
  • Behavioral neuroscience
  • General and applied undergraduate electives
• Teach graduate courses in the applicant’s areas of expertise, including graduate-level coursework across clinical, counseling, and school psychology, practicum supervision in the in-house training clinic, and other specialized opportunities.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in psychology, or doctoral degree from an APA-accredited program in school, clinical, or counseling psychology, or a doctoral degree in general/experimental psychology by August 2026.
• Evidence of strong teaching skills.

• Doctoral degree in Psychology.
