About the role
The Greenwood School of Music at Oklahoma State University seeks applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor of Oboe with a start date of August 2026.
Responsibilities
- Build and sustain a successful oboe studio and play an active role in the recruitment and retention of oboe majors.
- Collaborate with colleagues in the advancement of the woodwind area.
- Teach applied lessons in oboe including a weekly studio class.
- Teach the oboe portion of the double reed techniques course.
- Rehearse weekly and perform as oboist with Bluestem Blaze, the faculty woodwind quintet.
- Engage in service to the unit and their profession, be productive as an artist/scholar, and promote a welcoming learning environment.
Requirements
- A Master's degree in oboe performance, conferred on or before the agreed upon start date.
- Evidence of successful applied teaching experience at the university level.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively mentor and collaborate with students and colleagues.
- A Ph.D./Ed.D., earned doctorate or equivalent professional experience.
- Experience in chamber and orchestral performance.

The Michael and Anne Greenwood School of Music has a current faculty of over 40 full-time faculty, combined with a full-time professional staff of 9. There are approximately 300 students enrolled in degree programs that include the BA, BM, BS, and MM, with programs in music education, performance, jazz, music and music industry. Oklahoma State University, accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music, is housed in the beautiful new facility of the McKnight Performing Arts Center and the Michael and Anne Greenwood School of Music, and an all-Steinway institution.
