About the Role
Canisius University invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor of History teaching Modern American History and/or Modern European History for the 2026-2027 Academic Year in the Department of History to teach US history and/or European history surveys at the introductory level and develop upper-level courses in the candidate's field of expertise.
Responsibilities
- Teach four courses per semester
- Teach US history and/or European history survey courses at the introductory level
- Develop upper-level courses in the candidate's field of expertise
Qualifications
- Ph.D. in History completed by the time of appointment
- Demonstrated ability to teach U.S. history and/or European history survey courses at the introductory level
- Evidence of scholarly engagement in a field related to Modern American history and/or Modern European history
- Commitment to excellence in teaching and student learning within a liberal arts context
- Strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
- Commitment to supporting the mission and values of Canisius University and the Jesuit tradition in education
- Eligibility to work in the United States (This position is not eligible for sponsorship)
Preferred Fields of Expertise
- For Modern American History: study of race and ethnicity, gender, and urban history
- For Modern European History: study of genocide, globalization, immigration, refugees, as well as Europe in the wider world
Pay
- $56,000-67,000 for the 2026-2027 Academic Year
Schedule
- Monday through Friday, hours and days dependent on class schedule
