General Summary

Central Methodist University seeks applications for a full-time Visiting Assistant Professor of Biology position beginning Fall 2026. The position primarily involves teaching lecture and lab courses in biochemistry and microbiology and will also share teaching responsibilities for non-majors biology courses (e.g., Human Biology). The successful applicant will join a small but dedicated group of biology faculty teaching in a strong program.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned classes at the scheduled times using effective and current teaching, testing, and grading techniques. Coursework should be graded and feedback provided to students in a timely manner.
  • Be available to meet with students as needed before or after class or at other scheduled times throughout the week.
  • Develop course syllabi, lectures, and instructional materials using technology appropriate to the subject taught and aligned with the mission of the University.
  • Candidates must show evidence of a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and actively engage students in and out of the classroom.

Education and Experience Qualifications

  • M.S. in Biology or closely related field is required.
  • Ph.D. is preferred.
  • ABD near completion will also be considered.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods during class instruction and office hours.
  • Must be able to speak clearly and project the voice effectively in a classroom setting.
  • Occasional lifting of materials up to 25 pounds may be required, such as books, equipment, or classroom supplies.
