The position is a visiting appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor. A Ph.D with a concentration in some aspect of Neurobiology, Physiology, or Cellular Biology is appropriate. A Master’s Degree, or a Ph.D candidate post-qualifying exams is acceptable.

About the role

The successful candidate will teach lab sections of the upper division Neurobiology course BIOL 3457 and a section of the sophomore-level biology lab course Cells and Cell Systems Lab BIOL 2112 in the fall. In the spring, the candidate will contribute to the Biology core curriculum.

Responsibilities

  • Teach two lab sections of Neurobiology
  • Teach one section of Cells and Cell Systems Lab
  • Contribute to the Biology core curriculum in the spring

Qualifications

  • Required: A Master’s degree or confirmation that a Ph.D. candidate has passed their qualifying exams. The area of expertise must be a concentration in some aspect of neuroscience, physiology, or cellular biology.
  • PREFERRED: Earned Ph.D. in some aspect of neuroscience, physiology, or cellular biology.
  • Experience: Evidence of teaching excellence at the undergraduate level and a theoretical understanding of electrophysiology. The ideal candidate has hands-on familiarity with techniques used in the Neurobiology lab including electrophysiology, modeling of neurons, immunohistochemistry, and confocal microscopy.

Skills and Abilities

  • Understanding of and experience using extracellular and sharp electrode intracellular electrophysiological experimental methods.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

Work is completed in office and physiology lab environments. Must be able to move about freely. Willingness to travel on behalf of Trinity University. Physical demands are light; all lifting is less than 50 pounds.

Maintaining and satisfying minimum attendance requirements is an essential function of this position. All employees in this job classification are required to satisfy this requirement. This job classification may not include “light duty” work or allow unpredictable or unrestricted absences. On-site attendance required.
