Visiting Assistant Professor - Musical Theatre
The Department of Music, Theatre, and Dance at Christopher Newport University invites applications for the position of Visiting Assistant Professor of Musical Theater effective August 2026. This position is a full-time, one-year visiting appointment with a nominal teaching load of 4-4. The primary responsibilities include teaching applied music theater voice, with the possibility of a secondary teaching area in classical applied voice. The successful candidate will also contribute to the department curriculum and support the production of cabaret programs.
About the Role
We seek a candidate with a terminal degree in a relevant field (Theatre, Fine Arts, or Music), or a master’s in a related field, and significant professional experience in music theatre performance. Preference will be given to those with additional experience in teaching undergraduates and classical music performance. Additional classroom teaching experience will also be considered.
Responsibilities
- Teach applied music theater voice
- Contribute to the department curriculum as appropriate
- Support the production of cabaret programs in collaboration with the cabaret director
Requirements
- Terminal degree in a relevant field (Theatre, Fine Arts, or Music)
- Significant professional experience in music theatre performance
- Additional experience in teaching undergraduates and classical music performance
- Additional classroom teaching experience may be considered

Benefits
Salary ranges from $65,000 to $75,000 commensurate with Education and Experience.
