About the Role

The Department of Music, Theatre, and Dance at Christopher Newport University invites applications for the position of Visiting Assistant Professor of Musical Theater, effective August 2026. This is a full-time, one-year visiting appointment with a nominal teaching load of 4-4.

Responsibilities

  • Teach applied music theater voice, with the possibility of a secondary teaching area in classical applied voice.
  • Contribute to the department curriculum as appropriate and consistent with experience and specialization.
  • Support the production of cabaret programs in collaboration with the cabaret director.

Qualifications

  • Terminal degree in a relevant field (Theatre, Fine Arts, or Music), or a master’s degree in a related field.
  • Significant professional experience in music theatre performance.
  • Preference given to candidates with additional experience in teaching undergraduates and classical music performance.
  • Additional classroom teaching experience is also considered.

The Department of Music, Theatre, and Dance at Christopher Newport University is composed of 22 faculty and 150+ majors. Housed in the Ferguson Center for the Arts, we offer a comprehensive array of major concentrations under both the BM and BA degrees. Pay

Salary ranges from $65,000 to $75,000, commensurate with education and experience.
