Visiting Assistant Professor, Ethnic Studies - One Year Temporary (3 Positions) Riverside City College
About the role
Riverside City College invites applications for a visiting one-year temporary faculty position in the Ethnic Studies area. The position is open to candidates with a Master's degree in Ethnic Studies, American Studies, or related fields, with recent experience working with diverse student populations.
Responsibilities
- Teach courses in Ethnic Studies, African American/Black Studies, Asian American and Pacific Islander Studies, Chicanx and Latinx Studies, Native American and Indigenous Studies, and other related disciplines.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary faculty to develop and enhance Ethnic Studies curriculum.
- Support students from racially and socioeconomically diverse backgrounds through culturally relevant pedagogy and inclusive teaching practices.
- Maintain scheduled office and campus hours, participate in department and division meetings, and engage in professional development activities.
- Contribute to the college's mission of educating a racially and socioeconomically diverse student population with a broad mix of Ethnic Studies course offerings.
- Engage in continuous improvement of instruction, curriculum, and program development.
Requirements
- A Master's degree in Ethnic Studies, American Studies, or a related field.
- Recent experience working with African American/Black, Asian American, Pacific Islander, Chicanx, Latinx, Native American, Indigenous, and other racially/ethnically, socioeconomically minoritized students.
- Demonstrated commitment to social and racial justice, decolonial and anti-racist pedagogies, and equitable teaching practices.
- Ability to teach a variety of Ethnic Studies courses, including but not limited to intersectionality, decolonizing methodology, and community-oriented activist action research.
Qualifications
- Master's in the ethnic studies field OR a master's in American Studies/Ethnicity, Latino Studies, La Raza Studies, Central American Studies, Latin American Studies, Cross Cultural Studies, Race and Ethnic Relations, Asian American Studies, or African American Studies OR the equivalent.
- Experience working with diverse student populations and understanding of historical patterns affecting these groups in higher education.
- Demonstrated teaching excellence in Ethnic Studies and expertise in multiple areas of Ethnic Studies.
- Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, evidenced by sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Pay
Salary is commensurate with academic preparation and full-time teaching or equivalent experience, ranging from Column C, Step 1 to Column H, Step 6 of the current Faculty Salary Schedule.
Schedule
The teaching assignment may include early morning (e.g., 7am), day, evening, online, hybrid, and/or off-campus classes.
