About the role

The Humanities Department at SUNY Maritime College invites applications for a one year Visiting Assistant Professor of English beginning August, 2026.

Responsibilities

• Teach lower division general education courses and potentially upper division electives in Composition and US, Global, and Maritime Literature, with an emphasis on diverse cultures and perspectives.
• Teach a 4/4 course load, with an emphasis on teaching.
• Enhance the national appeal of our growing undergraduate program (MRST) and further enhance the international draw of our graduate program (MNST).
• Teach in-person, online, and hybrid classes.

Requirements

• Ph. D. in Composition and Rhetoric and/or Literature
• Substantial experience teaching composition and literature classes, including hybrid and online
• Active research agenda

Qualifications

• Expertise in Maritime Literature, Blue Humanities, and/or Cultural Studies
• Specialty in Digital Humanities and/or Multimedia Studies

Skills

• Ability to teach in-person, online, and hybrid classes
• Research expertise in writing and literary fields
• Experience teaching diverse cultures and perspectives

Benefits
