About the role
The Maritime College, State University of New York, invites applications for the position of Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor in the Department of Engineering. The department offers Bachelor of Engineering degrees in Electrical, Marine, and Mechanical Engineering, and Naval Architecture. All B.E. programs are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET. We welcome applications from candidates with a Marine Engineering background or closely related discipline.
Job Requirements
Required Qualifications: A bachelor's degree in marine engineering (5-6 years post-graduation at the time of application) or a closely related discipline, and a willingness to progress academically by attending graduate school while working at SUNY Maritime
Active (or previously held) licensure as a USCG Engineering Officer - Unlimited Horsepower or an equivalent foreign endorsement
Experience as an engineering officer in charge of a manned engine room or designated duty engineer in a periodically unmanned engine room (750KW and above)
The ability to teach and develop courses in the marine engineering discipline (such as Marine Engineering Capstone Design) as well as the ability to teach and develop practical STCW courses in topics needed to prepare cadets for the 3rd Assistant Engineer Exam
The ability to teach and assess cadets during the annual Summer Sea Term onboard the Training Ship Empire State VII (TSES VII) for additional compensation
Experience with engine room simulators or shipboard experience with modern IAS or IMCS systems

A commitment to provide professional service to the engineering community by serving on technical committees and participating in professional organizations

Additional Information
Classification/Salary Range: The Lecturer, Assistant, Associate or Professor position will be an academic year 10 month appointment. The Lecturer 10 Month position is a non-tenure track, while appointments as Assistant, Associate, or Professor are tenure-track.
Initial appointment without tenure (non-continuing appointment) will be for a fixed term of two or three years. Tenure (continuing appointment) hire will be considered for those already tenured or with significant previous academic experience and a demonstrated track record of success.
Salary range is $85,000 - $120,000 and is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Compensation includes a full benefits package in accordance with UUP contract.
Special Notes
This is a full-time academic year appointment UUP position subject to budget approval. Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) status: Exempt.
