The Wireless Networks Business team supports carrier customers through innovative technology, offering a dynamic culture with great challenge and reward. We are looking for a Virtualization Platform & Orchestration Engineer to join our team as a key contributor in R&D, systems engineering, product validation, and product support for Samsung’s NFV Platform and Orchestration solutions.
Responsibilities
- Installation and Commissioning:
- Provide installation support (lab and production) for Samsung NFV Platform and Orchestration solutions, including:
- Installation, commissioning, and configuration of virtualized environments (BIOS, Linux OS, network scripts, etc.)
- KVM, NUMA, and GRUB configuration
- Installation and configuration of OpenStack platform
- Installation, configuration, and maintenance of Kubernetes-based CaaS environments (Red Hat OpenShift, WindRiver Titanium, and community Kubernetes)
- Installation, configuration, and maintenance of CNCF PaaS toolsets (Prometheus, Jaeger, Grafana, Kiali, etc.)
- Test Engineering:
- Create test cases and test plans, and execute them in Samsung and customer labs
- Document test results for feature testing, performance testing, and interoperability testing
- Tier 2/3 Support:
- Troubleshoot commercial Virtualization and Orchestration application issues
- Propose workarounds and work with R&D to provide Root Cause Analysis (RCA) to customers (may involve 24x7 support)
- Collaborate with support organizations and cross-functional teams for successful product roll-outs
- Ensure customer commitments are achieved according to plan
- Sporadic travel may be required during the project
Requirements
- Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field (Master’s degree beneficial)
- Experience in a professional, highly technical environment with exposure to virtualization technology
- Proficiency in Linux environments, including scripting and command-line tools
- Experience with virtualization technologies (OpenStack, Kubernetes) and cloud-native concepts
- Experience with commercial cloud hyperscalers
- Understanding of virtualization technologies (CPU pinning, NUMA, guest isolation, SRIOV)
- Knowledge of ETSI MANO Reference Architecture and its components
- Familiarity with wireless network technologies (RAN, Core, Transport)
- Understanding of software engineering concepts (message queues, multi-threading, algorithms, interfaces, inter-process communication, security, relational databases)
- Knowledge of networking concepts (TCP/IP, VLAN, sockets, IPv4/6, NAT, routing, interface snooping; switch configuration preferred)
- Understanding of compute resources (CPU, memory, disk) and performance assessment
- Knowledge of DevOps concepts and CI/CD
- Troubleshooting experience using command-line and scripting tools (shell, Python, etc.)
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Technical acumen to drive solutions through complex organizational dynamics
- Ability to quickly learn and adapt to fast-changing technology
- Ability to follow complex procedures accurately
- Strong presentation and communication skills for all organizational levels, including R&D, vendors, and customers
- Experience navigating complex organizations and problem-solving in ambiguous environments
