Job Summary

The Virtual Registered Nurse (VRN) is responsible for providing professional nursing care through two-way audio/visual technology, conducting virtual nursing rounds, and collaborating with the healthcare team.

Responsibilities

  • Assess and care for patients via video conferencing.
  • Provide virtual health assessments, treatment solutions, and follow-up from the Virtual Command Center.
  • Create, implement, and monitor care plans in collaboration with other care teams.
  • Develop, update, and communicate plan of care, including discharge, in partnership with the patient, family, and interprofessional health care team.
  • Prioritize care based on patient needs, abilities, and preferences.
  • Advocate on behalf of patients and families to identify and resolve clinical and ethical concerns.
  • Collaborate with interprofessional health care team to facilitate patient throughput efficiently.
  • Develop and implement effective patient teaching strategies based on learning needs.
  • Evaluate patient comprehension and adapt teaching methods accordingly.
  • Anticipate/prevent and recognize/resolve early declines in patient condition and emergent situations.
  • Contribute to the development of service line and hospital standards and guidelines.
  • Coach and mentor nursing staff in areas of clinical and professional practice.
  • Led initiatives to improve quality and safety scores on the unit and hospital scorecards.
  • Lead unit and shared governance activities.
  • Serve as the clinical resource.
  • Document in Electronic Medical Record each encounter with clinical staff.
  • Ensure that reporting is in place to demonstrate program outcomes and support performance improvement activities.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program and experience as a Registered Nurse.
  • Valid RN License from Virginia or reciprocal compact state.
  • BSN preferred.
  • Three (3) years acute care nursing experience.
  • AHA BLS Provider CPR.
  • Computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of information.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally.
  • Proficient with Windows-style applications, various software packages specific to role, and keyboard.
  • Preferred ANCC-recognized certification in applicable specialty area.
