Virtual Online Elementary Math and Reading Tutor K-8 Fully Remote

About the role

BookNook is seeking tutors available to support students across the United States in math with provided lesson content. Tutors meet with students in consistent, recurring weekly sessions and enjoy a supportive community, the BookNook virtual classroom, and fully provided lesson content—no lesson prep or planning required. This is an opportunity to make a direct, positive impact on students in grades K to 8.

Schedule

Tutors must be available for at least one hour most weekdays (Monday–Thursday) between 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM ET. While tutors can set their own hours and claim sessions outside this window, peak student demand falls within this time frame. The schedule follows the school year (September to May), with most sessions lasting 30 minutes. Tutors must attend at least 80% of claimed sessions to provide stable support for students.

Pay

Pay rate is $20 per hour ($10 per 30-minute session), with opportunities for incentive payments.

Responsibilities

• Deliver pre-designed, best-practice math lessons to provide targeted support for students at or below grade level.
• Build meaningful professional connections with students and create an encouraging, motivating learning environment.
• Conduct sessions from a clean, distraction-free environment with reliable high-speed internet (minimum 20 mbps).
• Maintain consistent attendance for at least 80% of claimed sessions.

Requirements

• Experience as a classroom teacher, EL/ESL/ELL instructor, tutor, coach, or similar student support role (college degree preferred).
• Ability to build rapport and provide supportive corrections to students.
• Access to a computer (laptop or desktop), webcam, and reliable high-speed internet (minimum 20 mbps).
• Must reside in and tutor from one of the following states: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Wyoming, or Washington, DC.
• All sessions must be conducted from within the 50 United States or Washington, DC.
• Must complete an in-person fingerprint-based FBI background check (reimbursed up to $99).
• Must complete a paid, self-paced BookNook tutor certification.
