Position Summary
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Senior Occupational Therapist - Hand Therapy. In this role, the successful candidate is responsible for evaluating occupational therapy needs and implementing comprehensive medically prescribed occupational therapy programs for assigned patients in a supervised rehabilitation setting. Demonstrates a variety of treatment approaches, assists in organizing unit activities, and supports clinical teaching sessions.
Job Responsibilities

- Teaches and supervises assigned OT students in appropriate OT techniques, skills, and procedures
- Demonstrates a genuine interest in assisting students in enhancing their knowledge and skill levels
- Encourages positive learning experiences for students and other non-fieldwork students
- Responsible for certain level of patient care productivity as indicated by individual unit procedures
- Engages in clinical learning experiences and actively engages other colleagues
- Pursues own area of interest and develops them into areas of expertise
- Assists in organizational and structural duties when supervisor is not available
- Demonstrates situational leadership in handling unit-specific issues or concerns
- Reviews medical charts to ascertain important medical information and clarify referral/treatment orders if necessary for unfamiliar diagnoses
- Selects appropriate OT assessment tools and methods to accurately determine patients' status for developing optimal treatment plans
- Demonstrates effective clinical decision-making and implements changes/adaptations to the OT treatment plan when appropriate
- Implements treatment plans and protocols according to current professional and health system standards
- Establishes achievable and appropriate treatment goals with patients and families
- Selects appropriate technical aids/assistive devices and correctly refers patients to other clinical services to achieve stated program/team treatment goals
- Affirms educational needs of patient families and implements various methods for patient/family education and training during the rehabilitation process
- Completes all required documentation for patient care and reimbursement
- Completes and plans all required documentation in the medical chart as required by department guidelines and JACHO/CARF requirements
- Accurately records all treatment given, including completion of the daily treatment record
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Therapy, New York State Occupational Therapy License or temporary permit
- Minimum of two years experience as an Occupational Therapist
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- AHA or Heartsaver CPR/AED certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Required licenses: Occupational Therapist Temp Permit-NYS, Occup Therapist License-NYS, Certified Hand Therapist (CHT)
Preferred Qualifications
- Clinical Doctorate Degree in Occupational Therapy
