Why does the job exist?
The position coordinates violence prevention programs throughout New Mexico in order to reduce the number of incidents and the rate of violence.
Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and supervise effective prevention programs and initiatives aligned with the Department's goal of reducing violence rates in New Mexico.
- Write grants to acquire funding for violence prevention programming and craft requests for proposals to elicit responses from potential contractors.
- Work with contractors to develop scopes of work in order to increase organizational capacity to deliver violence prevention programming.
- Negotiate and manage contracts, including writing scopes of work, reviewing invoices and deliverables, and monitoring spending to ensure that all funds are spent effectively.
Requirements
- Associate's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Guidance and Counseling, Education, Sociology, Criminal Justice, Criminology, Family Studies/Services, Social Sciences, or Human Services and one (1) year of experience as a social work assistant and/or in social or community coordination, working with communities, working on health or social service-related matters, social work/case management experience, and/or behavioral health care.
- Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling three (3) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

- Ability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment and be responsive to multiple priorities and deadlines while complying with state and federal regulations.
- Experience managing large program budgets
- Ability to apply for and manage federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention grants.
