Reporting to the Senior Producer and Editor, this grant-funded role focuses on creating multimedia content for AAP initiatives, including social media, websites, educational modules, and public communications.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with AAP physician members, staff, and external partners to develop multimedia content aligned with campaign, grant, or sponsorship goals.
  • Conceive creative visual storytelling approaches to meet child health communications objectives.
  • Develop scripts, storyboards, and select optimal media formats for projects.
  • Budget, allocate resources, and set project deadlines.
  • Write, edit, and review scripts and storyboards for diverse audiences (parents, clinicians, etc.).
  • Proofread and copyedit captions and content to ensure accuracy and adherence to style guidelines.
  • Plan video shoots, including location scouting, scheduling, and shoot lists.
  • Manage location- and studio-based video production, including lighting, camera operation, sound, and teleprompter direction.
  • Operate gimbals for field work and provide performance direction to talent.
  • Oversee post-production: editorial decisions, video/audio editing, chroma-keying, visual effects, motion graphics, color correction, and finishing.
  • Write titles, descriptions, and SEO metadata for YouTube/social media videos; create thumbnails.
  • Compress and distribute video projects to designated platforms, vendors, or clients.
  • Ensure cohesion in AAP videos by providing style and branding guidance.
  • Research and stay current on state-of-the-art video production technology.
  • Manage the video library and archive.
  • Evaluate video content analytics.
  • Identify technical reviewers, route materials, and incorporate feedback into revisions.
  • Attend team meetings, editorial meetings, and conferences as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in film/video/radio, digital media, communications, journalism, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum three years’ experience in television, film, or news media production, including scripting, editing, equipment operation, non-linear editing, motion graphics, and visual effects (consumer health information experience preferred).
  • Corporate, medical, or association environment experience is a plus.

Skills

  • Expert-level knowledge of professional video production procedures, techniques, terminology, and equipment (cameras, audio recording, lighting, etc.).
  • Proficiency in non-linear editing software (e.g., Davinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro, Avid Media Composer, Adobe Premiere) and Adobe Creative Suite (After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator).
  • Ability to learn emerging multimedia technologies, including AI tools, virtual meeting platforms (Teams), and document collaboration platforms (SharePoint).
  • Strong written/verbal communication, interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Creative thinking, attention to detail, and ability to work independently or collaboratively under tight deadlines.
  • Flexibility to accommodate travel, evening/weekend work, and physicians’ availability.

Pay

Current base pay range: $82,182.66 – $86,748.48. Compensation decisions consider experience, skills, certifications, location, business needs, and internal equity.
