About the role
The NBC News Digital Newsgathering unit is seeking a Senior Video Producer to work at the core of NBC News's newsgathering operation. This role involves producing video content for NBCNews.com, mobile, and social platforms while leading the Video Desk's daily editorial operation in a highly collaborative environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead a team of producers across NBC News bureaus on the acquisition, selection, editing, publishing, and distribution of live and on-demand video content.
- Lead daily editorial coverage during assigned shifts, prioritizing coverage, delegating assignments, and making timely editorial decisions.
- Monitor and review incoming feeds, NBC off-air and digital streaming channels, publishing relevant clips for articles, blogs, and external partners.
- Edit user-generated videos and raw feeds, adding graphics to enhance context and reporting.
- Prepare onscreen graphics (banner, locator, identifier) for supplemental live streams.
- Route feeds for simulcasts, live streams, and/or recording purposes.
- Write text for headlines, captions, and on-screen graphics.
- Select, edit, and publish images to promote video clips.
- Resurface relevant past interviews and footage from the archives.
- Use analytics tools to make data-informed decisions and maximize ROI.
- Identify and address problems quickly when they arise.
- Oversee the work of producers, delegate assignments, and provide editorial feedback and coaching.
- Participate in editorial and big-picture planning meetings.
- Assist the Director of Digital Video with coverage planning, scheduling, and staffing.
- Assist with training and onboarding of new hires.
- Work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, nights, and weekends as news dictates.
Requirements
- Five or more years of experience producing and editing video for digital, social, and mobile platforms.
- Proficiency in nonlinear editing systems like Avid or Premiere.
- Strong journalistic writing skills and editorial judgment.
- Familiarity with AP Style and SEO best practices.
- Experience with content management/online publishing systems.
- Strong knowledge of and interest in current events and a superior eye for spotting compelling video.
- Experience crafting fair and accurate headlines and informative captions.
- Basic photo editing skills.
- Speedy decision-making and quick reactions to newsworthy topics.
- Familiarity with analytics tools.
- Strong organizational skills and work ethic.
- Ability to take direction well and provide self-direction.
- Ability to work calmly in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize assignments under extreme deadlines.
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to provide direction, feedback, and mentorship to other producers.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with editorial teams, colleagues, and management.
Desired Characteristics
- Bachelor's degree in journalism, communication, or a related discipline emphasizing storytelling and multimedia creation, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Further background in broadcast news production.
- Experience with Avid video editing is a plus.
- Knowledge of NBC News policies, guidelines, and practices.
Schedule
This position has a hybrid schedule, requiring in-office work a minimum of four days per week. The schedule is flexible, including early mornings, nights, and weekends as news dictates.

Pay
Salary range: $115,000 - $120,000.
