UNHS is hiring a full-time Victim Advocate to join our behavioral health team in Crownpoint, New Mexico. We deliver integrated services including behavioral health, pharmacy, dental, specialty referrals, chronic disease management, and health education across four primary care health centers in San Juan County, Utah.

About the Role

We offer the opportunity to work with a dynamic team providing victim services to underserved communities. The Victim Advocate will report to and coordinate with the UNHS Behavioral Health department regarding victim services.

Responsibilities

  • Advocate for victims of crime, domestic violence, and sexual assault.
  • Provide communities with domestic violence prevention and awareness activities.
  • Assist victims in completing the New Mexico Crime Victims Reparations Compensation application.
  • Provide documentation of client interactions using a software program.
  • Assist clients in completing victim statements and support them during interviews.
  • Help victims access protection orders and prepare for court testimony.
  • Interface with multiple law enforcement agencies (e.g., Navajo Nation Police, state police, FBI).
  • Attend and complete all required training assignments.
  • Interact with medical providers during the referral process.
  • Support and engage with victims and their families requesting assistance.
  • Collaborate with UNHS behavioral health staff regarding client needs.
  • Advocate for clients regarding their medical, legal, housing, financial, rehabilitation, and counseling needs.
  • Assist victims in accessing traditional/spiritual Navajo healing practices.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with local law enforcement, FBI, Navajo Nation Division of Social Services, and Navajo Nation Courts.
  • Become familiar with state and tribal domestic violence and sexual assault laws.
  • Become trauma-informed.
  • Document client and agency encounters for program reporting purposes.
  • Provide emotional support to families grieving assault victims.

Requirements

  • Fluently interpret English/Navajo for victims in both medical and legal settings.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with local law enforcement, EMS, FBI, Navajo Nation Division of Social Services, victim service organizations, DV shelters, and Navajo Nation courts.

Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates with one year of experience in victim services, behavioral health, and/or human services.

Immunization Requirements

As a Tribal Organization serving patients with high-risk and underlying chronic medical conditions, UNHS requires employees to provide proof of the following immunizations/vaccinations prior to or during employment:

  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): Documentation of two MMR vaccines or MMR titers.
  • Complete Hepatitis B vaccine series (3 doses), documented proof of titers indicating immunity, or a signed declination.
  • Proof of up-to-date PPD skin testing (if previously negative) or proof of positive PPD with recent chest x-ray and treatment history.
  • Tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (Tdap).
  • Varicella titers, history of varicella, or varicella immunization series.
  • Influenza vaccine for the current year.
  • COVID-19 vaccine.
  • Any other vaccinations as requested.
