About the role
The Victim Advocate position is responsible for providing assistance to victims of crime. Essential Duties And Responsibilities are outlined below.
Responsibilities
- Maintains and monitors victim caseload, enters and updates victim information/contacts.
- Notifies victims regarding court proceedings.
- Provides direct services to victims of violent crime.
- Aids in the completion of various forms and documents.
- Prepares and sends information packets to victims; provides victims with detailed information concerning victim rights, the criminal justice process and sources of assistance.
- Performs administrative and personal service duties; notifies victims and witnesses as to case status/progress information; contacts victims regarding impending court dates.
- Trains, supervises and evaluates the work of interns.
- Accompanied victims to court.
- Affords assistance to victims or witnesses with crime related problems, performs need assessment with victims and witnesses to determine appropriate actions and/or referrals.
- Verifies need for restitution.
- Maintains accurate and confidential records of contacts with victims.
- Collaborates with other agencies/victim service providers to assist victims and witnesses.
- Performs related work as assigned.
Requirements
- A minimum of a High School or GED equivalent – Bachelors degree preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years work experience performing high level administrative support duties, three (3) of which were in a legal or court setting.
- Required to possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
Qualifications
- Proven knowledge of legal procedures, forms, documents and terminology, business letter writing, general office procedures and practices, and correct grammar/spelling.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
- Ability to handle confidential materials with discretion, research/compile data, establish communication and maintain working relationship with others, work independently, learn/understand new office procedures, prepare technical data.
- Demonstrate strong communication skills.
- Ability to maintain appropriate confidentiality and security of private information.
- Ability to work effectively with members of all levels within the organization as well as in public.
- Demonstrate the ability to achieve results on a timely basis.
