About the role

CGS is seeking a Victim Witness Assistant to join our team supporting the legal mission of a large federal agency. This position allows candidates to demonstrate expertise in victim services and criminal justice while providing critical support to victims and witnesses throughout the legal process. The Victim Witness Assistant will work closely with Victim Witness Coordinators and Specialists to provide case-related information, connect individuals with available resources and services, assist with court-related logistics, and ensure victims and witnesses receive compassionate, timely, and professional support.

Responsibilities

  • Assist program Victim Witness Coordinator and Victim Witness Specialists with logistics of court events by addressing issues concerning employer.
  • Prepare witnesses to testify by explaining processes, procedures, and resources available to them (e.g., Victim Compensation Assistance Program and other services).
  • Provide information on victim impact statements.
  • Provide information to victims on schedule changes, status of defendants’ pleas, trial results, and term of defendants’ incarceration.
  • Orient victims on the Crime Victim Compensation Program and provide information on eligibility and application procedures.
  • Respond to victim inquiries by providing initial screening of victim concerns and determining eligibility for services based on prescribed criteria.
  • In consultation with program Coordinator and Specialists and following USAO guidelines, provide routine information about community organizations offering medical, psychological, legal, financial, shelter, childcare, and employment services to victims and witnesses based on their unique needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, Communication, or trauma-informed training.
  • At least two years working in the field of victim services and criminal justice.
  • Excellent communication, writing, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a team member and with other federal, state, county, and local entities.
  • Strong ability to multitask and work under pressure.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to crime victims from diverse communities, exercise good judgment, and establish rapport with various city, state, and federal entities.
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills along with knowledge of Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
