Vice President, Product Design

About the role

The Vice President, Product Designer role is based in New York, NY. This role is part of the AI Hub team within BNY, a leading global financial services company.

Responsibilities

• Make complexity clear: Design experiences for complex systems like multi-step workflows and data-heavy interfaces.
• Understand the problem at depth: Synthesize user research and drive concept development from day one.
• Communicate design rationale: Articulate the rationale behind design decisions to mixed audiences.
• Contribute to a design system: Build a design system structured as machine-readable infrastructure, not just a component library.
• Mentor through example: Raise the standard of work around you through critique, collaboration, and problem-solving.

Requirements

• Strong product design fundamentals: Research synthesis, interaction design, systems thinking, visual craft.
• Experience designing complex systems: Enterprise software, multi-step workflows, data-heavy interfaces.
• Comfort working in ambiguous, fast-moving environments.
• The ability to communicate design rationale to mixed audiences.

Preferred

• Experience with AI-assisted tools for ideation and building.
• Experience working in shared codebases or repos with cross-functional teams.
• A moment when AI changed how you approached a design problem.
• Contributed to a design system at the pattern or systems level.

Portfolio

A portfolio is required, but what we most want to see may not look like a traditional design portfolio. The most compelling thing you can share is evidence of how you actually create products: working alongside product managers and engineers in real time, from research to something shippable, in a way that reflects how modern product teams operate. Show us a process, a repo, a prototype you built directly, a decision you influenced in the room. If you've worked in a shared codebase or repo with cross-functional partners, bring that to life. If you've used AI tools to get from insight to working experience faster, bring that to life. Beyond that, we want to see what you'd expect: complex systems thinking, end-to-end journey work, evidence of design decisions that improved the experience and why. Figma files, PDFs, personal sites, live products: format doesn't matter. Show us the work that best reflects how you think and what you shaped.

The expected base salary for this position when employment commences can be found in the Job Info section at the bottom of the posting. Base salary offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Base salary is only part of the total rewards package, which may include eligibility for an annual discretionary incentive award.
