About the role
The Vice President of Operations (VP of Ops) is a senior operations leader responsible for overseeing project execution and operational performance within our Government business unit. Reporting to and partnering closely with the Business Unit Leader (BUL), this role ensures projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and in alignment to the highest quality standards while driving operational efficiency and profitability.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide operational leadership for all projects within the assigned Business Unit, overseeing project management teams and field operations.
- Partner with Business Unit Leader (BUL) to align operational execution with Business Unit goals, financial targets, and growth plans.
- Oversee project execution from preconstruction through closeout for projects, ensuring compliance with contractual requirements and company standards.
- Monitor project budgets, cost controls, and resource utilization within the Business Unit to achieve revenue and fee objectives.
- Review and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) (schedule adherence, safety metrics, profitability, client satisfaction) and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Collaborate with Business Unit Leader and Preconstruction team to forecast project workload and resource needs.
- Support operational strategies that enable scalable growth for the Business Unit, while aligning with enterprise processes and best practices.
- Identify and implement process improvements, risk mitigation strategies, and technology solutions to enhance project delivery and operational consistency within the Business Unit.
- Participate in Business Unit leadership meetings and contribute to broader operational initiatives in coordination with corporate leadership.
- Lead, mentor, and retain operational talent within the Business Unit, including Project Executives, Superintendents, and Project Managers.
- Establish clear performance expectations and career development pathways for Business Unit project teams.
- Promote and foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, safety, and excellence.
- Maintain strong relationships with clients, trade partners, and design professionals associated with the Business Unit’s portfolio.
- Develop the strategy and lead the dispute resolution process for issue resolution with Owners and trade partners.
- Represent the company in industry associations and networking events.
- Champion a zero-incident safety culture across all projects within the Business Unit.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, company policies, and contractual obligations.
Qualifications
- At least ten (10) years of experience in commercial construction, including a minimum of five (5) years in senior project management or operational leadership roles.
- Proven ability to scale operational teams, systems, and processes to support organizational growth.
- Demonstrated success leading and developing multi-level project teams through clear expectations, coaching, accountability, and consistent oversight across multiple projects.
- Strong client relationship and stakeholder management skills, with a record of delivering repeat business and high client satisfaction.
- Track record of operational and project delivery excellence, including schedule performance, quality execution, financial outcomes, and safety results.
- Exceptional communication, leadership, and strategic decision-making abilities.
- Ability to cultivate a high-performance culture focused on accountability, safety, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field.
- Experience leading work in one or more key market sectors.
Pay
The base salary range for this position is: $175,000.00 - $225,000.00
Schedule
Minimum of 40 hours per week required. Works hours will vary depending on project specifications and may involve weekends and night work.
