Vice President of Perioperative Services

Administration

  • Represents Nursing and Patient Care Services in the hospital administrative structure.
  • Participates with leaders of the governing bodies, management, nursing, medical and clinical staff in the Hospital's decision-making structures and processes.
  • Participates with leaders of the governing bodies, management, nursing, medical and clinical staff in the ongoing development and review of the mission, strategic plan and operations, policies and procedures and allocation of resources for Perioperative Services.
  • Participates with leaders from the governing body, management, nursing, medical and clinical staff, in planning and implementing quality assessment and improvement programs, quality monitoring and quality improvement activities.
  • Participates with leaders from management, nursing, medical and clinical staff, in developing and maintaining a Risk Management Program.
  • Establishes standards of nursing and performance of the professional practice model: Relationship Centered Care within Perioperative Services.
  • Participates in evaluating, selecting, and integrating health care technology and information management systems that support patient care needs and the efficient use of resources.
  • Collaborates with appropriate community and governmental policy-making bodies.
  • Participates in and assumes leadership roles in professional organizations and provides opportunities for staff participation.
  • Formulates annual goals for nursing and patient care services consistent with the overall annual goals of the hospital.
  • Participates with leaders from governing body, management, nursing, medical and clinical staff in the development and maintenance of an effective safety management program.

Human Resources Development

  • Initiates, develops and implements mechanisms for collaboration between nurses, clinical staff members, physicians and other practitioners.
  • Develops, implements and evaluates programs to promote recruitment and retention of hospital staff.
  • Collaborates with leaders from the governing body, management, nursing, medical and clinical staff in the development of clinical staff members.
  • Affirms the establishment of appropriate education programs of orientation; ongoing staff education; development of clinical leadership and management skills; and continuing education.
  • Provides application of collective bargaining agreements with the New York State Nurses Association and 1199/SEIU representatives.
  • Interprets and implements all aspects of the HR personnel policies.
  • Affirms ongoing performance appraisals for all patient care staff within Perioperative Services.
  • Collaborates in the development of mentoring programs; provision of student and graduate educational experiences, in collaboration with institutions of higher learning, in nursing and other professions.

Fiscal Management

  • Participates with leaders from the governing body, management, nursing, medical and clinical staff in the ongoing development and review of the budget for Perioperative Services.
  • Responsible for the formulation and monitoring of a financial plan and resource allocation within clinical specialty service of Perioperative Services.
  • Affirms systems are implemented for adherence to the budgetary and financial plan for the Hospital.

Research

  • Develops and implements strategic goals and initiatives for The Center for Nursing Research and Education.
  • Determines the nursing research direction for Perioperative Services.
  • Identifies and supports nursing research studies and projects which are designed to improve the delivery of patient care.
  • Supports and encourages collaborative research studies and projects to improve the delivery of patient care through the Center for Nursing Research and Education and the medical departments within Perioperative Services.
  • Affirms compliance with IRB and Compliance standards, rules and regulations.

Professional

  • Demonstrates visionary leadership through the development of strategic plans for the 21st century.
  • Supports programs to promote global nursing practice through collaboration, innovation and demonstration of best practices.
  • Participates in the activities of the nursing profession through membership, committee leadership, lectures and panel presentations on international, national, state and local levels.
  • Publishes in professional nursing and health related periodicals.
  • Serves as consultant for university affiliations and other outside services for pertinent nursing and health care issues.

Qualifications

  • Licensure: New York State Licensure with current registration.
  • Education: Master’s in Nursing/Health Care required; Doctorate in Nursing preferred.
  • Certification: CNOR, ANCC-Advanced by American Nurses Association preferred.
  • Experience: Demonstrated competence in the management of a Nursing Clinical Service with relevant clinical experience in Cardiology and Cardiothoracic patient care in an academic medical center; demonstrated expertise in nursing; demonstrated commitment to the nursing profession; demonstrated ability to apply knowledge of current leadership/management concepts; ability to work collaboratively in the health care milieu of the organization.

Compensation

The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides salary ranges that comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $275,000.00 - 350,000.00. Yearly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
