The Texas Association of Diversity Officers in Higher Education (TADOHE) is a state chapter of the National Association of Diversity Officers in Higher Education, focused on advancing inclusive excellence across colleges and universities. The association provides a professional home for diversity officers through networking, professional development, and shared resources. About the Role

The Vice President of Communications is a volunteer, remote role responsible for shaping and executing TADOHE’s communications strategy. This position oversees the development of clear, engaging messaging across digital channels, email campaigns, press releases, and member communications to promote TADOHE’s mission, programs, and events. The role involves managing media relations, coordinating public statements, and supporting leadership in preparing talking points and presentations.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and review content to ensure consistent branding and tone.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of communication efforts.
  • Collaborate with board members and committees to align communications with organizational goals.
  • Maintain strong relationships with stakeholders in higher education.
  • Stay informed about trends in diversity, equity, and inclusion to inform proactive communication.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in strategic communications and corporate communications, including developing and implementing organization-wide communication plans.
  • Experience creating and managing press releases and public relations initiatives to promote organizational activities and positions.
  • Strong media relations skills, including cultivating relationships with journalists and responding to media inquiries in a timely, professional manner.
  • Ability to lead comprehensive communication efforts that integrate strategic communications, public relations, and corporate communications best practices.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging to diverse audiences in higher education.
  • Experience working with or supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, preferably within higher education institutions or associations.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in a remote environment, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Experience with digital communication tools and platforms (e.g., email marketing systems, social media, content management systems) is highly beneficial.
