About the role
Responsible for ensuring leading edge nursing and patient care services are delivered to patients. Participates with leaders from the Board and management throughout Beacon Health System, medical staff and the clinical areas in planning, promoting and conducting organization-wide performance improvement activities. Provides executive oversight of Nursing Administration, Nursing Services, Nursing Education, Nursing Services, MedFlight and Epworth Hospital behavioral health services. Provides executive oversight of Beacon Health System services lines as assigned. Collaborates with leaders across Beacon Health System to promote the Beacon Values and to align and standardize clinical and operational practices.
Responsibilities
- Stays current on developments in nursing practice through research, collaborating with the nursing staff and networking with nursing leaders on a national basis.
- Leads nursing leadership in converting leading edge developments into nursing practice, ensuring that practice is documented in nursing standards and implemented consistently throughout the Hospital.
- Leads nursing management and other patient care services in continuously improving clinical services to patients.
- Fosters pride in nursing by celebrating successes and in facilitating meaningful two-way communication throughout Nursing and patient care services.
- Assures a dynamic strategic plan for nursing that includes recruitment, retention and nurse wellness.
- Affirms compliance with federal and state regulations.
- Participates actively in hospital patient safety activities and initiatives, taking the lead with nursing and patient care services.
- Participates with leaders from the Board, management throughout the system, medical staff and the clinical areas in planning, promoting and conducting organization-wide performance improvement activities by actively participating with the following groups: Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees, Administrative Leadership, Hospital leadership, Medical Executive Committee, Hospital Quality Committee, and various other assigned committees.
- Manages all areas of responsibility by working with managerial personnel and medical directors to develop goals, objectives and financial budgets.
- Works with managerial and supervisory personnel and medical directors to develop a work environment that promotes the dignity of each individual, the richness of diversity, the spirit of teamwork and life long learning that assists each person to reach their potential.
- Works with managerial and supervisory personnel and medical directors to implement plans and services that achieve departmental goals, objectives and financial budgets.

Qualifications
- The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through the successful completion of a bachelor's degree in nursing and a master's degree in nursing or related area.
- Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in Indiana required.
- Five to seven years of progressively more responsible experience as a nurse patient care giver and three to five years of experience in nursing administrative/leadership positions is required.
- Requires comprehensive knowledge of nursing and healthcare practices and techniques as well as knowledge of external regulations and requirements.
- Requires a thorough understanding of clinical nursing care policies, procedures, practices and techniques in order to lead the improvement in services to patients.
- Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills in order to make effective presentations, foster solid communications, provide strong group leadership skills and work with a diverse number of persons.
- Maintains ethical conduct reflected in conducting all activities with honesty and integrity and focused on providing high-quality patient care.
